About Me
Author. Journalist. Blogger. Marketing Manager. Website Designer. Online Entrepreneur.
I’ve been called a lot of things over the years (including many names I won’t get into here), so I’m not sure how to best describe myself other than to say I’m a former ink-in-the-veins journalist who has gone the tech route, where I’ve been fortunate enough to develop websites, content and marketing campaigns for some of the top sites on the web.
I’ve been working online since the mid-90s, but I also spent a good decade in the newspaper business as a senior writer and web editor for McClatchy Newspapers. Along with the professional writing background, and that daily newspaper grind deadline experience, I’ve developed content, communities, blogs, SEO, social media and online marketing campaigns for four Top 1,000 websites – About.com, Examiner.com, Experts-Exchange.com and HP.com.
I’ve also worked as an online marketing manager for Shopatron.com, a global eCommerce provider, and RECSolar.com/MainstreamEnergy — one of the top green tech/solar power companies in the U.S. (800+ employees, 16 branches).
Most recently, I’ve founded Meadows Interactive and popular blogging communities such as BallHyped.com and BlogHyped.com, and have had my original work there highlighted by the likes of ProBlogger.net, SEOMoz.org, SI.com, NYTimes.com and the Yahoo! homepage.
Along with the marketing, blogging, social media, SEO and content development background, I have experience designing and marketing mobile applications and sites such as the Android apps for BallHyped and Hikes in Central California.
Writing Background
During my time at The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, Calif., I was fortunate enough to cover some amazing stories:
Sitting down for one-on-ones with such greats as Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees.- Covering games from the field at AT&T Park and Qualcomm Stadium.
- And getting up close and personal with Mother Nature, leading to award-winning pieces on big-wave surfing and my 100-mile kayak expedition along the SLO County coast.
But the best story (and I use the word “story” loosely) came one foggy Christmas Eve, when I dressed up as Santa and surfed Pismo Pier – producing a viral blog/video that was featured on CNN Headline News (live interview on HLN), as well as News 13 in Florida, KCAL in LA and Surfer magazine.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I live for writing about blogging, tech, e-commerce, sports and the outdoors, having written a pair of outdoors guidebooks on the Central Coast, Fishing Central California and Top Trails California Central Coast.
Please feel free to contact me by email or Twitter with any questions or comments you have … whether it’s about writing, marketing, social media, e-commerce, or even if you’re just looking for a good place to eat, hike or go fishing on the Central Coast.
